Why I set up this index

Tips for searching

You can enter any part of the cemetery name in the search box, as long as it is 3 characters. To make it easier I have used Anglican for Church of England, C/E, CofE, or Anglican, and Catholic for R/C; for Mount or Mt I've used Mount, but for Saint or St, I've used St, except when the word is Saints, such as in All Saints.

The search on this page searches all the entries in my index. To search a particular state, click on the link for that state. The page for each state also includes a list of the websites with data for the cemeteries in that state.

Use FamilySearch first - they not only have indexes for both Find a Grave and BillionGraves, but other cemetery records as well as births and baptisms, deaths and burials and marriages, and passenger lists and school records for South Australia

I have included the cemeteries I have found on FamilySearch, whether it has been indexed, or is a browse only collection; I have also included Find a Grave and BillionGraves in this index, so that you can compare the number of records available on these sites

I have also included the cemeteries within Australia on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site; for any war graves outside of Australia, I have not included them on my index.

The websites below are sites that I have indexed that have information from more than two states. They may also have records from overseas.

Main websites

FamilySearch first to search Find a Grave and Billion Graves, and to check what else they have

Australian Cemeteries Index by person or cemetery; there is also a list of cemeteries for each state, with the address of the cemetery, the number of inscriptions, and whether there are any photos, which can be accessed by choosing Map from the top menu, and then the state
Australian Jewish Historical Society burials
Carol's Headstone Photographs Victoria, but also has data for other states; you can either choose the cemetery from the list of cemeteries, or use the Search form on the home page for each state on the Australian Cemeteries website
